The Arthur Rank Hospice at Shelford Bottom provides the Cambridge community with a new palliative care facility.
Working with Barnes Construction, Munro carried out the M&E installation on a design & build basis. It was important to provide the hospice with good value and a high-quality finish whilst maintaining a non-medical feel.
The project included a full lighting system, electrics, ventilation, heating, domestic services, medical gases and fire alarms which included over 2 miles of pipework and 5 miles of cable. The hospice will provide patient and ward areas, consulting and treatment rooms and communal spaces.
A key objective was to ensure patients moved into their new home as quickly as possible. With that in mind, the site teams worked tirelessly to finish 2 weeks ahead of programme, which was achieved with help from Munro.
With patient comfort at the heart of the charity’s ethos we installed chilled active beams which provide a fast reacting heating/cooling source, paired with constant fresh air to give the patients a natural and gentle air solution.
To support a non-medical feel and ensure a natural environment, Munro designed a bespoke overhead bed light which was mocked up and tested at our facilities prior to installation. The project was designed with the focus on the patients and ensuring ease of use and maintenance, to allow the hospice to run smoothly and affordably.
