As part of a landmark project for a 7000m2 extension to provide additional teaching facilities at Unity College, Munro worked on an innovative development in collaboration with Cambridge company Breathing Buildings.
The e-stack is a natural ventilation system that enables heat recovery in naturally ventilated buildings. By careful design of the air flow, the heat generated from people, computers and lighting can be used to preheat the incoming air.
Previous development had focused on the use of single stacks to ventilate small spaces, but the Unity College project uses four interacting e-stacks in the large school hall. The e-stack is clearly one solution to the urgent problems of national energy usage and we were delighted to play a part.
