New Project, New Product, New Carbon Saving Solution
Supplied by Pipe Centre, Munro Building Services go greener with Tubes | Tata Steel UK, new to the market, low carbon Eco-tube, with a 90 per cent reduction in embodied carbon when compared to it’s standard offering.
Project Fox – Circa £5.0 Million – Project Starting June 2024
Munro Building Services will be working alongside MEP Designer Hoare Lea and main contractor 8 Build, providing the design, installation and commissioning of MEP services to Phase 2 of The Press development in Foxton, Cambridgeshire. The development by specialist investors Mission Street and BGO is within Phase 2 of the scheme proposed to deliver 64,000 sq ft of brand-new laboratory and office space. The two-storey building comprises three wings centred around a double-height communal atrium, providing a common reception and meeting spaces.
Targeting BREEAM Excellent, the new development will come with EV charging points, photovoltaic panels and highly efficient MEP systems, using only electrical power with energy efficient air source heat pumps to provide heating and cooling throughout the development. Overall, this will reduce the site’s reliance on fossil fuels.
Appointed Mechanical Project Manager Mason Newman for Munro Building Services, approached Pipe Centre’s ASM, Laura Robinson to present energy and carbon saving solutions for Project Fox. Laura made the introduction of Tata Steel’s new carbon saving, Eco-tube range. The total carbon saving in changing to the new Tata Steel Install® Plus 235 Eco will amount to 41.6 tonnes of carbon dioxide, constituting a 90 per cent reduction in embodied carbon through the use of an innovative scheme based on actual carbon emission reductions in their manufacturing processes. In a continued partnership, Pipe Centre, part of Wolseley Group, has collaborated with the manufacturer Tata Steel to supply Munro’s Project Fox with 16.3 tonnes of steel tubes.
The current focus within the construction marketplace is heavily weighted towards sustainability and targeting Net Carbon Zero construction. Project Fox is a prime example of a Cambridge based development that is sustainability focused, targeting BREEAM Excellent, and aiming to reduce carbon emissions where possible. As a business, Munro Building Services remain committed to continuously look for solutions to work alongside our clients to fulfil their sustainability goals and achieve their project aspirations, while maintaining the expected Munro high quality installation. Product selection is ever increasingly key in achieving these goals and we are pleased to be leading the Cambridge MEP installation market, hopefully influencing the wider MEP Industry in their drive to reduce carbon emissions. Having the Install® Plus 235 Eco-tube product manufactured in the UK by Tata Steel and supplied by Pipe Centre is another positive contribution to the region’s overall sustainability ambitions.
