Munro Building Services Ltd have a requirement for an experienced Design Manager. You will take responsibility for the development and completion of MEP services design documentation and manage the design process on multiple projects. We generally work on projects with a value up to £12m. We are looking for a Design Manager who can ensure project documentation is complete, concise, in line with regulatory requirements and project budgets. You’ll work closely with external design consultants, architects, clients, main contractors and sub-contractors and project stakeholders to ensure project goals are met.


Some of your duties will include but not be limited to:

 

  • Establish and agree design programs with clients & design consultants.
  • Monitor progress of the design against the agreed programme and ensure documentation is completed on time.
  • Directly engage with and manage the design team and external design consultants.
  • Review and critically appraise MEP services design documentation throughout the design process. Ensure all aspects of the design comply with the project brief, designs are coordinated, spatial fit is observed and regulations are adhered to.
  • Attend design coordination and design team meetings with professional team. Set goals for meetings, clearly convey actions and resolve design issues.
  • Engage with sub-contractors to incorporate valuable design advice.
  • Develop, issue and track requests for information.
  • Liaise with preconstruction teams to ensure project budget are adhered to.
  • Undertake minor design activities to support Contract / Project Managers.
  • Ensure coordinated working drawings are developed to allow installation to commence.
  • Attend internal pre-contract meetings to present design documentation to contract teams and project managers upon contract award.
  • Prepare reports required by client and professional team. Respond to all correspondence/communications in writing, recording key aspects.
  • Ensure that health and safety policies and procedures are adhered to and fully implemented and take appropriate action where individuals do not comply with the company’s health and safety policies and procedures.

 

In order to be considered for this exciting role you must have:

 

  • A detailed knowledge and understanding of Building Services design process.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a MEP services design role.
  • A proven capability to undertake design of all mechanical or electrical services systems including public health, domestic water services, heating systems, cooling and ventilation systems.
  • A Building Services Engineering degree or be working towards a recognised qualification.
  • A strong knowledge of and a proven history of working on BIM level 2 projects and associated BIM execution Plans.
  • Have a detailed knowledge of low and zero carbon technologies.
  • Have knowledge of project procurement methods from traditional single stage to 2 stage design and build contracts.
  • The ability to plan, co-ordinate and prioritise workloads.
  • Good people management, communication and motivational skills.
  • The ability to work under pressure to meet set deadlines on multiple projects.
  • The ability to work unsupervised but also to be an active team member.
  • A pro-active approach to problem solving.
  • A good knowledge of all aspects of health and safety within the industry and the ability to implement control measures at site level.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work in a client facing environment.

Munro Building Services are seeking a proactive and adaptable Mechanical Estimator. The Mechanical Estimator forms part of the pre-construction team and is responsible for the accurate pricing of all mechanical services during the pre-construction period. The Mechanical Estimator will complete drawing takeoffs and acquire all supplier and sub-contractor quotations before completing a cost comparison sheet for each individual package. It is the responsibility of the Mechanical Estimator to develop the design (where required) through the tender period, or to engage design assistance to ensure MBS offer a full and compliant quotation to main contractors and direct clients.

 

Some of your duties will include but not be limited to –

  • Fully appraise, interrogate and understand tender information.
  • Receive, file and monitor all tender information alongside the Electrical Estimator to ensure MBS provide a quotation in compliance with the correct documentation.
  • Obtain a spread of subcontractor and supplier quotations (where possible) to ensure each package can be evaluated as part of the mechanical prime cost.
  • Follow up each enquiry with the suppliers and sub-contractors to ensure quotations are received on time, clarifying all tender queries and ensuring compliance is achieved, engaging with suppliers and/or sub-contractors where required.
  • Technical evaluation of all suppliers, material and sub-contractor quotations to suit the tender requirements.
  • Provide clear analysis on price comparison sheets for all suppliers and sub-contractors to allow Senior Management to make informed decisions during the tender adjudication process.
  • Raise RFI’s during the tender period to ensure that MBS have a full understanding of the project constraints prior to the tender submission.
  • Design development and measurement/take-off from design drawings of all mechanical services that form part of the prime cost evaluation.
  • Mechanical services input into contractor proposals, including completing specification details and/or providing schedules to clarify the MBS commercial position on new tenders.
  • Prepare tender information and present the scheme and associated costs to the senior team at an adjudication meeting
  • Preparation of value engineering schedules and cost options for each tender as required.
  • Work with the project teams to hand over the tender information in a consistent manner, providing a spread of quotations for each supplier and sub-contractor package along with a final reflection of the mechanical services contract sum.
  • Attendance at all pre-tender meetings.
  • Attendance at CPDs, meetings and other training where required to do so by the management team.
  • Keep up to date with material, supplier and sub-contractor developments to ensure MBS are continuously offering new products as part of their tender submissions.

In return we offer the opportunity to work within a team of highly skilled engineers in a lively and welcoming environment with full training and support provided.

The apprenticeship operates on a hybrid of day, and a block release system meaning that the successful candidate will spend time at college completing their academic studies and time on site gaining practical experience. The last/ later years are more site based where you will prepare for your AM2 Practical Assessment. On successful completion you will gain your NVQ3 Qualification. Over the four year apprenticeship you will learn how to:

  • Install, maintain and repair electrical services (e.g. lighting, sockets, fire alarms, emergency lighting & lighting controls)

Munro Building Services are offering a Building Services Engineering Apprenticeship. This provides successful applicants the opportunity to gain a HNC Building Services Engineering Senior Technician qualification (subject to entry requirements).

This will be provided through our apprenticeship scheme whilst you undertake the role of Trainee Design Coordinator.

Some of your duties will include but not be limited to –

  • To assist in the efficient management of the building services design from the tender period through to the construction delivery, this will include co-ordination with multiple stakeholders, including services consultants, contractors and architects.
  • Support the design co-ordination and management team with the collation of specialist services design to ensure client and contractors requirements achieved.
  • Attend design co-ordination meetings with the professional team.
  • Integrate with pre-construction and construction team to ensure the most efficient design is developed to optimise both cost, energy consumption and carbon emissions.
  • Assist in the preparation of design reports,  information release schedule, programmes and document management.

In order to be considered for this exciting role you must have:

  • As a minimum, A - Level DDD or Access to HE qualifications with 45 Passes supported by substantial relevant work experience

OR

  • Equivalent level 3 qualifications worth 64 UCAS points supported by substantial relevant work experience. Level 3 qualifications must include Maths or Physics.
  • Applicants must hold 5 GCSEs A-C including Maths and English or equivalent (reformed GCSEs grade 4 or above).
