We have undertaken several projects at the Department of Chemistry for the University of Cambridge including projects: G55, 287 and the South Wing Basement.
The South Wing Basement project involved the complete refurbishment of the basement to provide two new large laboratories, write up/office areas, two NMR laboratories and a large office and equipment room and undertook the installation of all new M&E services.
This included Ventilation – a new adiabatic air handling unit with DX cooling close controls. Fire extract systems were connected to the existing main exhaust stack manifold. The laboratory gases were extended from existing services within the risers. The project required integration into the users existing systems whilst the building was in full occupation. In addition, this required working in restricted ceiling voids where access and coordination was paramount.
