St Jude’s Church in South Kensington was built in 1870 and is a grade II listed building. Building work began there in 2010 to create St Paul’s Theological Centre, part of St Mellitus College.
The refurbishments involved re-roofing the church and expanding the crypt space under the whole length of the building. Space has been created for three lecture rooms, smaller rooms for seminars, a large library, offices, and a general open space. There is also space in the crypt for a nursery school and counselling rooms for work among the homeless.
Munro have worked with main contractor Mansells on the mechanical and electrical elements of this project, including the installation of a new boiler room and a comprehensive refit of the electrical systems. The project has been greatly helped by Munro’s long experience in similar work in other London churches, notably St Paul’s Cathedral.
