This project required the removal of the existing boiler system and the installation of three new boilers running either on natural gas or light fuel oil. A temporary boiler house was made available to the hospital for the duration of the contract to maintain a constant supply of steam.
An initial feasibility study revealed that running the new higher efficiency boilers (with 17% less carbon emission than the original heavy fuel) coupled with the lower cost of light fuel oil or gas, would allow the NHS Trust to recoup the full contract value of the work within seven years. The project has been 100% funded by the government’s Energy Sustainability fund.
